About the Author
Maureen Orey is an award-winning international speaker and best-selling author with more than 25 years of experience in management, leadership, training, and career development. She has worked in many industries, including technology, healthcare, construction, hospitality, and education. As President of Workplace Learning & Performance Group, she is dedicated to working with inspired individuals and organizations to help them improve their performance so they can achieve their desired results. Workplace Learning & Performance Group was the 2014 winner of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce's Small Business Award.
Maureen is the best-selling author of Communication Skills Training, published by ASTD Press, as well as the author ofSuccessful Staffing in a Diverse Workplace, published by Richard Chang Associates. She is a Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP), and holds an MA in Education from the University of San Diego and a BA in Psychology from San Diego State University. She was recognized as the 2008 Outstanding Instructor of the Year for San Diego State University's College of Extended Studies. In addition to her work in the private sector, she has taught at five local universities and is currently an adjunct professor at UC San Diego and Brandman University. She recently completed her first year of doctoral studies in Organizational Leadership at Brandman University.

This is a must have in any trainers tool box regardless of your experience level

I expected this book to be amazing and it exceeded those expectations by far! Having been a trainer in the Academia arena for many years (and taught communication skills on a college level), I was interested to see what the author was going to bring to the table that was new and fresh. The book started out with a great first ten pages on "How To Use The Book" which made so much sense. This is not just a book that you sit down, read, and then put on the book shelf. In my first read through, I had tons of highlights, dog-eared pages, and bookmarks placed throughout. The author provides a great refresher on why communication is so important within a training setting; something we often forget. Then the book takes you from pre-workshop, workshop, and post-workshop, providing information on training that takes a few hours to multi-day sessions. This book encompasses everything you need from slide info, handouts, room configuration, and so much more. WORTH EVERY PENNY!

Go from zero to classroom in a matter of days.

I am a big fan of the ATD Workshop Series, and when I saw that Maureen Orey, a Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP), was updating Communication Skills training, I knew I had to have this book. Quoting from the cover, “Includes All the Activities, Handouts, Tools, and Assessments You Need to Create and Deliver Powerful, Effective Training”. From an hour session to a multi-day workshop this book covers it all. I have used parts of this book in several other classes I have designed to stress the importance of communication and tie these classes back to a central message for my clients. Maureen has a succinctly captured the essence of communication skills and put it together in a way that any talent development professional can go from zero to classroom in a matter of days with highly professional presentations and materials. Finally, what you see is not all you get. In addition to the book, it is supported by a web site that contains all the PowerPoint presentations, handouts, and assessments. There is no need to create anything from scratch, or reinvent the wheel if you have this outstanding book.
