Such a sweet book! I absolutely loved this.

Such a sweet book! I absolutely loved this. Kimber strikes gold again. I loved other books I read from her, and this was no exception.
Will is a mortician working at his uncle's funeral home, who also works part time as an EMT. Will is dumped by his jerk "boyfriend" at the beginning of the book. One night while working his EMT shift, he gets called to the high school football field where a player collapsed. Brandon ends up not making it and is an organ donor. Will is very affected by the death of this young guy, especially after he also assists with the funeral.
Kory is a former porn star who had had a bad heart and required a transplant. He ends up moving from California to New Jersey when he gets the call that there is a heart for him. Brandon's heart. He had prayed and promised that he would leave his past behind him and make his life better if he got a second chance. Kory has a few moments where he has to determine exactly what this means for him (does it mean no more porn? no more men at all?)
Will meets Kory at the cemetery where both guys are visiting Brandon's grave. There is an immediate attraction between them. They form a friendship that eventually leads to a lot more. The story between the guys is sweet. Kory has never had a boyfriend before and Will has been burned in the past, so it starts slow and progresses conservatively, which I think helped them grow closer. They seem to be on the same page throughout the whole book and it was adorable.
Of course there has to be drama. Will's jerk ex knows Kory is a porn star and gets mad when Kory doesn't want to hook up with him. Then he tries to get Will back and is very threatening. He is the ultimate jerk. I could have lived with out Darryl in the book, but I think it was important for the guys to finally get to deeper truths with each other, and Darryl helped them get there. Jerk. Sorry, did I say that already?
The ending epilogue? Absolute perfection. I wouldn't mind getting a short down the road to see their happiness. I loved them.

I loved Crossed Hearts by author K.Vale. There is humor, love, and a whole lot of self realization. I really couldn’t stop reading it. This is the first book in the Hearts and Scars series and I hope not the last. The emotional connection and love just jumps off the pages of this book. A must read for a real true romance lover.
Kory well Kory used to be a porn star. He likes sex, he likes getting paid. He didn’t see why he couldn’t combine that and make some money. The problem though is Kory had severe heart problems. So bad that he had to have a heart replacement. This causes him to reevaluate his life. Does he want to waist this second chance he was given? He decides to turn his life around. He drops doing porn and becomes a bouncer. He is a good person trying to do the right thing. Even though all his friends keep trying to drag him back into the porn business.
Will we meet him at the start of the book. He is paramedic that ends up being called when a football player goes down. He is with the kid till the end and ends up being the mortician as well. He finds out Kory has the heart of the boy, and wants to know more about Kory. Will is shy and kind of geeky he doesn’t think he has a chance with the beefy hunk that is Kory. But when he finds he does. He really is a kind sweet man. But Kory doesn’t want to tell anyone he used to do porn. He wants to leave that behind. But will that secret be the thing that tears the new relationship he has with Will apart?
I would love to read many more books by K. Vale. The heart and soul in this one made me want more more more! True love is amazing to watch unfold. I highly recommend this book, I know it is going on my keeper shelf.

Making the most of a new life! Tender M/M romance.

Kory is a man with a new chance at life. He was an artist and gay porn star, but his congenital heart defect led to heart failure. He makes a promise to live a good, clean life if only he can continue living. A new heart has come available, and thought he's grateful, he's also melancholy. He learns that his donor was a teenaged boy who died suddenly and Kory doesn't think he can live up to the expectations in front of him. He goes rather hermit-like, and only reaches out to one man, Will, whom he meets when will lays flowers on his donor's grave.
Will is a full-time mortician and part-time EMT. He was on the field the day a teenboy suffered a traumatic head injury, and he regrets that boy's loss. He is stunned to meet Kory, who is super sexy and shy, but Will isn't ready for a new relationship. He'd recently broken off from his high school crush, Darryl, a man he thought loved him, but was really a closet-case who "spread it around." Kory's tentative overtures at friendship, and maybe more, are a welcome boost to Will's self-esteem. Soon, they decide that maybe a little physicality would be good. Kory's afraid to get too excited, despite his medical "all clear," though they find ways to be intimate that are not too strenuous (but TOTALLY SEXY!)
Throughout, there is a measure of deception on Kory's part. He tells Will he was a "nude model" which is really only a piece of his history. I can appreciate that Kory held back on his past, on account of it's kinda startling, and Kory's also sworn off returning to that lifestyle. He's never had a real boyfriend, and it is all too clear that is the direction in which he and Will are heading. Darryl makes his appearance several times, and he naturally knows Kory's past. He's also bent on turning Will back his own direction, and isn't afraid to use force to gain his desires.
I really liked the cautious development of this love story. Kory didn't only hold back because of his medical history--he relished the opportunity to go slow, become friends with Will. Will is absolutely adorable; a kind and generous man who helps out without acclaim. I also loved the parents of the heart donor, the Diaz family. They are all so gracious and loving, wanting to have a connection to both Kory and Will. Will's bestie, Holly, is a hoot of "beard" and the practical half of Will's brain. She made me snort with laughter. It was a bit tense after Kory's big reveal, but man, that closing scene with Darryl at the bar was...freaky. I still shudder thinking of it. Dark! Glad that Kory came out of it okay! Additionally, I really enjoyed the frank discussions regarding the medical care and Kory's on-going treatment. All the medical deets were spot-on, and having a couple scenes where CPR was warranted, I was glad to see this handled accurately. 30 compressions and 2 breaths, people!
Expect some sexytimes, some super tender moments, and a bit of sap in addition to a big bad ex and a couple bar room brawls. I received a copy of this book via the Goodreads' Don't Buy My Love group in exchange for an honest review.
