Cort Addison is back on Earth to quell rising protests against his wars throughout the galactic arm. For the people of his home planet, exterminating an entire species over a kidnapping was the final straw. He finds himself facing xenophobic leaders on Earth, sabotage, and his own personal loss and betrayal, all while trying to find where thousands of humans are being abducted to. No one is prepared for the barbarity they find on the hidden planet at the other end of a natural wormhole, where Cort must battle an enemy more dangerous and ruthless than any he has encountered before. Cort knows how to solve the problem: The same way he solves all of his problems, with brute force. But this time the cost of victory may transform both Cort and the entire Ares Federation forever.

Murder justified by expanded sexist concept of woman raping the man in the protagonist marine hero role
By LT
Consensual sex by two adults is not rape even when the man has diminished sexual inhibitions. Unbelievable how the main character can remember and regret the sexist things he said to others but brutally kills the "other woman" who so admired him. Then his loss of self control brings only a single regret, that he killed an embryo that is before the stage where the mother would have even suspected she might be pregnant.

The wife being outraged at the infidelity is predictable but this marine accepting that narrative without a second thought, ignoring his own complicity, and killing the women he then learns was carrying his child, may fit the author's screwed up right-wing inability to differentiate both as to levels of harm and motivations for the misbehavior, but death as the only fit punishment for the woman who was in every other way a model marine makes me sick. Misogynistic and sexist beyond belief unless the author also thinks that death is appropriate for any males who have sex with willing adults when their paramour's judgment is impaired.

If the woman had been in a position of authority, used force or coercion, had sex with a minor, or some other way committed a serious crime, or even if the author suggested it was an injustice or even a mistake then it would be less offensive. But the next book starts with the same concept that this older man enjoying the physical pleasure he needed emotionally at that point in the previous story, which his wife was unwilling to provide, amounts to rape.

Disappointing, Could be better
By Jadamgrd
After suffering through 5books. I see no point for the 6th. I have come to the conclusion that Shawn Jones needs a far better proofreader or profession
And hasn't any concept of what a Warrior really is. Someone to tell him "Shawn! No one Ever sends 50,000 troops to capture one little boy!"
Cortland, his main character is nothing more than a lying, murderous thug that should have been drowned at birth.
At least a missile strike on his compound? The whole point in book 1is to get him off there to search the place! Hell blast him to hell and gone!
I hoped the character would have evolved. But Mr. Jones personal ignorance runs amuck. Several times Cory claims he hated killing and avoids it when he can. About the same time he is killing some innocent people. Cort's first action was to kill people who looked at his wolf funny. Totally unnecessary, pepper spray would of worked. On Mars he wipes out a fleet of alien ships (somehow) who never fire a shot. His son is kidnapped, never harmed. Yet he kills BILLIONS! over it! He commit genocide. This guy makes Hitler look like a choir boy!
He has a twisted ideas for justice. A cadet leers at a female and makes a sexual remark. His punishment is a large hole in his chest.
Mr. Jones has a twisted idea of rape and what constitutes rape. A woman can not rape a man. The man has to be interested.... Yet in Jone's world a woman, right or wrong climbs on a WILLING man. Her punishment is death. At the end I hoped someone to pop a cap in the guy, he is nothing but a psycho. And Jones needs to take up knitting because his story telling sucks.

I truly believe Cort needs to be put down like the rapid dog that he is
By Genghis Kong
Having read through 5 books, I truly believe Cort needs to be put down like the rapid dog that he is. Or at the very least deserving of a bitch slap on a galactic scale. But I guess in the end we readers are the ones that got bitch slapped, because I had hope as the story progressed Mr. Jones would use the opportunity to grow the character, become something better than he started. Instead we see him devolved further into a narrow-minded thug.
